Popis: | Human African Trypanosomiasis is a highly dangerous tropical disease for which no fast, reliable, and sensitive screening tests are available to date. In this paper, the foundation of a novel electromagnetic sensor concept for aptamer-based direct detection of African trypanosome parasite layers is examined. Special attention is given to the sensitivity of asymmetric double-split ring resonators regarding different resonance modes in dependence on ring gap and target film dimensions. A specific sensor array design is then prototyped and tested using photoresist and actual trypanosome parasite coatings. Its response to different types and mixtures of cells in buffer solution is examined in detail to determine detectability of the parasite in varying dielectric contrast. |
