Popis: This chapter discusses the case of the intraoperative airway fire which is a potential catastrophic emergency. It is estimated that about 100–200 airway fires occur yearly in the United States, causing one to two deaths per year. For a fire to occur, three components are needed: fuel (ETT), oxidant (oxygen), and ignition (spark). In our case, the oxidant for the fire was the mixture of oxygen and nitrous oxide. The spark came from inadvertently tearing the trachea and using electrocautery. Our case points to the importance of rapid recognition of airway fire and methods to resecure the airway.
