Background: Due to large number of patients undergoing midline laparotomy as a common surgery, Incisional hernia was more commonly observed in high risk cases. The aim for this prospective approach was to study the effectiveness of prophylactic mesh placement in midline laparotomy to prevent chances of incisional hernia.Patients were divided into two groups of 25 each with one undergoing midline laparotomy with mesh placement and the other group with the normal laparotomy. In mesh placed group 1 (4%) patient developed incisional hernia and in group without mesh 6 (24%) patients developed incisional hernia which was statistically signicant.There were no signicant secondary complications like SSI, Seroma, Hematoma in both the groups. |
