Popis: India is an agricultural nation and its economy mainly depends on the agriculture. About 500 million tons (MT) of crop residues are generated out of total agriculture produce per year, which are either used as animal feed, livestock bedding, packaging material, cooking in households, papermaking, etc. or burned in the farms and create the environment pollution along with deterioration of the farm fertility. However, there is a great potential if the surplus biomass could be utilized as a feedstock to produce bioelectricity through gasification and combustion. About 23% of India's land is also covered by forest. Forestry waste and other agro-wastes are readily available to use these wastes for the electricity production. In this chapter, the availability of biomass, gasification and combustion technologies and its potential in power generation have been described.
