Popis: This Open-File report is a digital geologic map database stored in a computer in the U. S. Geological Survey offices in Menlo Park, California. The study area includes the Monterey Peninsula and part of the Carmel Valley area. Geologically, this region is situated within the complexly deformed Salinian block between the active San Andreas fault to the northeast and the San Gregorio fault zone to the southwest. It also is characterized by compressional tectonics related to the San Andreas fault system and includes many poorly understood subsidiary faults (Greene and others, 1988). A series of high-angle faults trends northwestward across the quadrangles. Most of the faults in the area are discontinuous, with some less than 1 km long; however, the Tularcitos fault zone continues across the entire mapped area. These faults displace the Monterey Formation and locally offset Quaternary deposits.
