Popis: | This article describes a program that focuses on observational methodology. We argue for greater emphasis on systematic observation in teaching research methodology because of its efficacy in helping students master scientific principles and techniques. Observational methods allow students to establish criterion-based validity of self-reports, appreciate the dynamic nature of psychological phenomena, and understand the importance of interob-server reliability. Observational methods and instrumentation also show students how subdisciplines of psychology can be integrated. Laboratory exercises illustrating some of these principles and concepts are also described. |
