Popis: The effect of time of weaning of Merino lambs on to different types of pasture in a tussock grassland environment was investigated. In 1963 significant differences in growth rates in favour of lambs weaned at 15–16 weeks compared with lambs weaned at 11–12 weeks were evident up to three months following weaning. In 1964 the reverse was true. However, nine months later differences were small and non-significant. Hence, under these conditions, if considerations of stock management demand it. lambs can be weaned at 11–12 weeks of age without detriment to their subsequent growth. Thiabendazole-treated lambs weaned on to irrigated pastures grew significantly faster than similar lambs weaned on to improved tussock pastures. Thiabendazole treatment increased live weight gains by up to 24.5% in a nine months period following weaning, and, in 1963, increased wool production by 4.6%. Significant increases in live weight were obtained when selenium was given in the presence of thiabendazole in 1964. In 1963...
