Popis: A review is presented on the current state of palynological research in metamorphic rocks. Recent studies have shown that organic-walled microfossils may be structurally preserved in rocks of the greenschist facies and even those of the lower amphibolite facies from where they can be separated by a special maceration procedure. In transmitted light, these micro-fossils appear as opaque bodies lacking observable structures, but a combination of transmitted and reflected light usually reveals their morphology. A series of Phanerozoic and Precambrian occurrences have been studied. The results show that palynology can be a useful tool in deciphering the stratigraphic ages of metamorphosed sediments.
