Popis: The Test Pit (TP) evaluation successfully characterised both the stratigraphic sequence and the archaeological potential of the site, and suggests the site lay outside of any settlement area until the 19th century, with activity on site until the later post-medieval period relating to agriculture and horticulture on the rich, fertile silty soils behind the Thames foreshore. There were no archaeological remains associated with underlying marshy peat deposits, deposits which were investigated previously, and adjudged to lack potential for further study. This appears to have been low ground that would have flooded at high tide, especially with no riverside embankment, despite being some 400m from the current northern bank of the Thames.
