Popis: This paper is concerned with the H[sup 1]-condition number and singular value distribution of preconditioned nonself adjoint discrete elliptic operators. In particular, a wide class of nonconforming finite element methods are investigated. The main results give a precise interval on which the singular values cluster. Results of this kind have an important bearing on the convergence behavior of the conjugate gradient method applied to the normal equations.
