Popis:	An electron beam ion source to be used in atomic physics experiments has been designed, constructed and partially tested. The source utilizes a conventional solenoid and an externally launched electron beam. Ultra-high vacuum in the ionization region of the source is provided by a distributed sputter-ion pump. The source is relatively simple in design and easy to operate. Thus far it has been used to produce ~ 300 eV/q multiply charged beams of carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, and possibly titanium.
