In this paper, we present the control of smart structures using a multi-agent control paradigm as a new option for aircraft active control that promotes the efficient integration of vehicle and structural dynamics with the control system. We first develop a multi-agent control framework that takes a control theoretic view of the multi-agent problem and includes elements of classical frequency domain control and of supervisory control. The architecture consists of three layers. The lowermost layer is the reactive layer and encompass the real-time capabilities of the framework. The next layer is the local supervisory layer. The final upper layer is the multi-agent layer. We also present an outline of the application of the multi-agent control framework to an aerospace control problem, specifically the control of an array of smart structures driven wing trailing edge flap-tab pairs. |
