Popis: | The vanadium (V) catalysed oxidation of 5-ketogluconic acid by air occurs readily only in neutral or alkaline solution. In the presence of phosphate the oxidation takes place in acidic media as well. In alkaline borate buffer the oxidation is completely blocked. In alkaline carbonate buffer the oxidation is fast and yields tartaric acid with much higher selectivity than in alkaline phosphate buffer solutions of the same pH. |
