Photoextinction measurements on spherical particles

Popis:	Experimental determinations, in the wavelength range 0.4-2.0 μ, of the transmissions of suspensions of spherical particles (barium sulphate and spores of Lycoperdon pyriforme) are used to calculate values of the total scattering coefficient K. The results are in approximate agreement with theoretical expectations. The measurements can also be used to determine the refractive indices and in certain cases the water content of the spheres.
