Popis: Anaemia may be defined as a deficiency of haemoglobin, the oxygen carrying protein. Anaemia is an indicator of a problem and not a final diagnosis, there are many possible causes and it is important to investigate these appropriately. Members of the public may self-prescribe iron when told that they are anaemic, this may treat the anaemia but, as will be shown, this is never good practice and may be harmful. It is important that patients should understand this. Anaemia is a symptom of many conditions, but the cause needs to be identified to treat it effectively.
