Popis: New phosphorus-containing carbon adsorbents have been obtained by modification of coconut shells with phosphoric acid at temperatures of 400-900 °C in a stream of argon. The carbon modified with phosphoric acid has a somewhat reduced porous structure. The presence of 4-5 types of surface group, 22-29% of which contained phosphate groups, was demonstrated by potentiometric titration. The quantity of phosphate groups increased when the temperature of the thermal treatment was increased. The phosphate-containing carbon has a greater adsorption capacity with respect to heavy metals than oxidized carbon.
