Popis: | 1. A photoconversion reaction was found for naphthalene and its derivatives in the air, the rate of which is not determined by the lifetime of these molecules in the excited state responsible for fluorescence. 2. The quantum yield for the photoconversion is independent of the wavelength of the activating light (from 253.7 to 313 nm) and oxygen pressure >150 torr. 3. In the absence of oxygen, the destruction of the compounds studied takes place in a process of a different nature. The quantum yield of the photoconversion decreases in the course of the reaction and this reaction may be hindered by quenching the fluorescence of the compound to be decomposed. |
