Popis: | Arizona State Parks & Trails (ASPT) is considering the procurement of approximately 51.5 ac in the town of Bouse, Arizona. The property is privately owned at this time. If the property is acquired by ASPT, it will be developed into the Arizona Peace Trail State Park. Funding to date has derived from ASPT. Details regarding future funding, permitting, and development are currently unavailable. No archaeological sites were encountered. Four IOs -one feature and three artifacts- were recorded. These include one historic midden (IO-1, one glass shard (IO-3), and two tertiary flakes (IO-2 [basalt] and IO-4 [jasper]). The basalt flake may have functioned as an expedient tool. The jasper flake is likely to have originated at a prehispanic jasper quarry within the nearby Bouse Site (Harner 1958). Although none of the IOs have been definitively dated, the midden and shard are likely to be over 50 years old, and the flakes are most likely prehispanic. Neither individually nor collectively do these resources qualify, in the author’s opinion, for inclusion in the state or national register of historic places. |
