Popis: This paper describes an analytical method for determining velocities and accelerations in mechanisms by means of geometry of the complex plane. In addition to analysis of the four-bar linkage, a special solution is worked out for direct-contact mechanisms. The latter is included because, though accelerations in direct-contact mechanisms can be analyzed in terms of their equivalent four-bar linkages, there are certain cases where it is explained that the four-bar-linkage analysis breaks down. Further, it is shown that the method is general and is applicable to any mechanism having plane motion including complex mechanisms which cannot be treated as a series of four-bar linkages.
