Popis: A range of multiple exponential transverse relaxation values (T2) was obtained for a variety of benign and malignant conditions in human breast tissue. In breast tissue containing predominantly fat or fibro-fatty tissue, there was good discrimination between benign and malignant samples based upon T2 values. In the fibrous tissue samples there was significant overlap in relaxation values of benign and malignant tissues. In the fibrous breast the number of carcinoma cells had to be greater than 20% before discrimination could be achieved.
