Popis: Summary The E.E.G. study of experimental kuru in rhesus monkeys shows, firstly, modifications in sleep organization (between the 16 th and 20 th month after inoculation), followed by complete disorganization of all activity during sleep and wakefulness. Both from the clinical point of view and the results of E.E.G. recordings, the disease in rhesus monkeys seems to be very different from that seen in humans and the experimental disease produced in chimpanzees. Paroxysmal discharges are frequent during the course of the disease. They could be due to very widespread but irregularly distributed cortical lesions, which are typical of a denervation hypersensitivity, more especially in the cortex of the mesial surfaces of the hemispheres. Both E.E.G. abnormalities and clinical sings are very variable from one animal to another. This diversity, the factors of which are difficult to analyze, is probably of great significance when studying rhis group of diseases.
