Popis: | A new optical polarization method for the integral investigation of thin sections of rocks is based on the analysis of the intensity of monochromatic light that passes through a polarizer-thin section-analyzer system as a function of the angle of rotation of the section about the optical axis with fixed parallel or crossed polarizers. The method yields information on the direction of the preferred optical orientation of individual crystals in a specimen, as well as the optical anisotropy of a thin section. Such integral parameters allow the microstructure of rocks to be quantitatively described. |
