Cross-reactivities of polyclonal antibodies to subunits, CRTA and CRTC, of the lobster carapace carotenoprotein, α-crustacyanin, and of monoclonal antibodies to human serum retinol-binding protein against carotenoproteins of different types and from separate invertebrate species

Popis: The cross-reactivity of the subunits of a range of carotenoproteins isolated from different invertebrate phyla is tested against monoclonal antibodies (MAbs) to human serum retinol-binding protein and against polyclonal antibodies (PAbs) to the apoproteins, CRTA and CRTC, of the lobster carotenoprotein, crustacyanin. The MAbs cross-react with CRTA and CRTC but fail to react with the subunits of other carotenoproteins investigated. The PAbs do not cross-react with the subunits of lipovitellin or glycoprotein type carotenoproteins but do so with those of carotenoproteins isolated from a copepod and from two species of the phylum Coelenterata.
