Popis:	The serendipitous discovery of a legal disclaimer at the head of a table of contents (which was termed an index) stimulated research on the phenomenon of disclaimers in indexes and databases. Definitions of disclaimer in British and American legal dictionaries are provided, and the concept is discussed in relation to introductory notes in indexes, disclaimers in reference publications - including websites - and information malpractice.
