Popis: Cochran’s (2005) review of literature on working with men notes that “men’s underutilization of psychological services and psychotherapy is well documented” (p. 649). Andronico (1996) asks how men can be engaged in group psychotherapy within the constraints of time and financial resources. This article offers a clinical examination of the recruitment and engagement phases of the Beyond Separation group program offered under the aegis of the Ottawa Civic Hospital’s Men’s Clinic. The Integrity Model, an existential approach emphasizing the importance of honouring one’s values in achieving mental health and wellness, provided the theoretical foundation for this program. This study’s potential impact on the design and implementation of respectful and viable approaches in the recruitment and engagement phases of therapeutic group programs for men is discussed.
