Popis: This chapter discusses the philosophical underpinnings, policy framework, management system, partnerships, and resultant learning for continual improvement involved in the application of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), with spotlight on Principles, at Tata Steel’s Jamshedpur Works. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, International Labour Organization (ILO) Conventions, and International Convention on the Rights of the Child, among others, serve to guide business decisions. The core principles of the Tata Code of Conduct similarly state that the company must “respect the human rights and dignity of all our stakeholders.” The elements of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and ILO Conventions encompass the SA8000 clauses. The management commitment toward respecting human rights and elements of the UNGC and SA8000 is expressed in the company’s social accountability policy, which is dedicated to upholding human rights at the workplace. Tata Steel has respected the right of employees for freedom of association and collective bargaining.
