Synthesis and structural characterization of two new Zintl [M7As3Q13]4− anions (M=Cu, Ag; Q=Se, Te) containing distorted cubane [M7Q] clusters

Popis: | Syntheses of (n-Bu4N)4Ag7As3Te13 and (n-Bu4N)4Cu7As3Se13, from the extraction of respective quaternary K2AgAsTe4 and KCuAsSe3 alloys, are reported. The single crystal diffraction data revealed that both molecular chalcogenide compounds contain the unique ternary M7As3Q13 4− anion (M=Cu, Ag; Q=Se, Te) and tetrabutylammonium cations. These two compounds are found to be isostructural with (n-Bu4N)4Cu7As3Te13. Both M7As3Q13 4− anions are composed of a distorted cubane [M7Q] cluster which is exclusively coordinated by three [AsQ2(Q2)]3− ligands. All the M7 units resemble close packing of the M metal along the [111] direction. Due to the size effect of both M and Q atoms, the symmetry of the three M7As3Q13 4− anions is lowered from the trigonal (Cu7Se) to the orthorhombic (Cu7Te) and finally to the monoclinic (Ag7Te). Structural comparisons are drawn between three different M7As3Q13 4− anions and related binary and ternary compounds. |
