Sartorius Stedim Biotech has recently developed an alternative to the existing stirred single-use bioreactors. The BIOSTAT CultiBag STR family currently covers the following range of working volumes: 50, 200, 500, and 1000 L. The focus of the development of this bioreactor family was to improve the comparability between single-use and classical re-usable processes. For this reason, certain critical design criteria were taken into account. Having a range of bioreactor sizes with similar design features, the BIOSTAT CultiBag STR system should help to achieve faster process development and scale-up results. The bioreactor design as well as process engineering characteristics were outlined in the following sections. |
