Here in this paper, a non-switching reaching law based discrete time sliding mode control is implemented with hardware for tracking of user defined reference speed profiles for a DC motor. A complete mathematical design procedure is explained for speed control. A non-switching type reaching law is used which reduces the practical problem of chattering during implementation in drive systems. Relative degree two sliding variable is used for this task keeping an eye to get finite time stability and better robustness as compared to relative degree one based reaching law. A comparative study is done between relative degree one and relative degree two approach both in simulation and practical laboratory implementation. Relative degree two approach is found to be superior in both cases considering various speed profiles. |
