This paper presents a methodology for systematic interdisciplinary reuse within the engineering of automated plants. This methodology is based on reusable components that are applied during the engineering. In the process industry, these reusable components can be aligned to the basic operations which are defined in the block diagram by the process engineers. To ensure the interdisciplinary acceptance of this methodology, reuse approaches of different involved disciplines, esp. the process engineering and the automation engineering discipline, have been analyzed and combined. This results in a methodology that supports both, the engineering of reusable components and the engineering of the automated plant using these components. As reusable components have to be adaptable to different customer requirements, the possibility of including variability within the reusable components is provided, to allow an adaption to the plant under construction. The methodology is exemplified by a desalination plant, focusing on the process and automation discipline. In order to assure the consistency both within the reusable components and within the solution, an approach for checking the consistency by the use of engineering relations is included. |
