We describe a contact- and marker-less sensor system (DynMetrics) facilitating the assessment of rehabilitation measures being applied to persons recovering from chirurgical treatments. Typically such intervention influences a patient's gait which is why we extensively analyzed the tracking data with respect to several gait metrics. In order to make the system broadly applicable it is designed to be mobile delivering onsite decision support to physicians at rather low cost. We describe the underlying requirements, the solution concept including featured algorithms and system design. Finally, results of a validation of the approach taken are reported, mainly with respect to a trial which was executed in a clinical environment. The results demonstrate the general applicability of our approach: the system can be set up out of the box within a short time interval (approx. 30 min) without tedious calibration procedures, the gait cycle analysis was proven to work with the intended precision and the effects of the therapy could be quantitatively reflected through the values of the extracted gait metrics under consideration. |
