Popis: Tissue engineering has emerged as a new field with possibilities of functional substitution of organs and damaged tissues. Design considerations in tissue engineering involve cells, scaffolds, and factors responsible for tissue regeneration. Scaffolds used for tissue engineering range from polymers to inorganic material substitutes, with the choice of material being dependent on its application. Advances in nanotechnology in recent years have added a new dimension to the tissue engineering approach. Nanomaterials have a range of dimensional sizes from 1 to 100 nm with attributed unique physical and chemical properties. Application of nanomaterials in tissue engineering has resulted in significant advances to the field. This chapter provides an overview of the applications of nanomaterials or nanotechnology in the tissue engineering areas.
