Popis: Freshwater environments in Asia are being degraded in an accelerating manner by human activities. What is the current state of the freshwater in each watershed? What are the critical factors that cause pollution loads in that region? Sustainable water resource management requires total diagnosis of water environments, covering the state of water and material cycling, evaluation of ecological goods and services, and identification of social and cultural factors that compel people to damage freshwater ecosystems. This study places the watershed as the natural unit of water and material cycling, and aims to set standards for the total diagnosis of environmental health to collect and integrate diverse kinds of environmental information. For this purpose, researchers in the humanities and science (e.g. ecology, geochemistry, engineering, economics, anthropology, sociology) have joined the project and are working co-operatively. This comprehensive research manual helps researchers diagnose the problems in a freshwater environment in cooperation with policy makers and residents who wish to establish a watershedmanagement system.
