In the field of quantitative structure-activity relationships (SAR) the study of antibiotics is of special interest. In fact, in some cases data for these drugs can be obtained for three steps of activity, namely enzyme systems, microorganisms and superior organisms; in this way a deeper understanding of their activity can be achieved by studying separately the factors affecting the intrinsic activity and the transport of the drug to the receptor site. Among the various methods proposed for the quantitative approach to SAR we have chosen the well known method of Hansch, and we have used the R m values to express lipophilicity. The experimental work has been performed by thin-layer partition chromatography between silicon oil and water containing various proportions of acetone [1]. |
