Popis: Decreases in specific monitored groups of insects were rarely observed following either one or two over-the-top or directed sprays of monosodium methanearsonate (MSMA) to cotton, Gossypium hirsutum L. (‘DES 56’). A single over-the-top application of 1.1 kg (AI)/ha of MSMA temporarily reduced numbers of thrips, Frankliniella spp., in only 1 of 3 years of the study. In 1 of 3 years of study, insidious flower bug, Orius insidiosus (Say); damsel bugs, Nabis spp.; leafhoppers, Cicadellidae; and adult tarnished plant bug, Lygus lineolaris (Palisot de Beauvois), populations were significantly reduced from those of the untreated control by two applications of MSMA, at least one of which was over-the-top of cotton 20 or 30 cm tall. Parasitic wasps, Hymenoptera; spiders, Araneida; lady beetles, Coccinellidae; and bigeyed bugs, Geocoris spp., were not affected by any of the MSMA treatments. MSMA applications did not reduce seed cotton yields compared to the untreated control.
