Popis: | The absorbed dose of radiation can be estimated by a dicentric chromosomal assay using blood culture in the Biodosimetry lab. The process requires specialized skills and competency and is time-consuming. In the case of large samples during a radiation emergency, a lab will not be able to handle the radiation-exposed subjects. In this study, we propose a method to identify the dicentric chromosomes in each metaphase image which is based on the intensity profile of the segmented chromosome. Also, we have developed an automated computerized image processing based scheme to rank the metaphase cell images according to their quality based on the inputs from the biodosimetry (accredited) lab of the Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Sciences (INMAS), India. We have evaluated the performance of the system for different ranked images. Experimental results demonstrate that if we use the ranking module with the detection of the dicentric chromosome, the performance of the system improves because the false detection of DC reduces as we use only good quality images. |
