Popis: Chapter 7 focuses on the use of motivational interviewing (MI) to support antiretroviral adherence and to help clients address barriers to adherence. First, the authors discuss the rationale for using MI for this purpose and review existing evidence for the effects of MI on medication adherence, as well as related to the continuum of care. Second, the authors share lessons learned from their experience developing and implementing MI-based antiretroviral adherence interventions. Next, they review best practices for conducting MI-based adherence interventions. The chapter ends with a discussion of the future direction of MI interventions, including antiretroviral adherence interventions that use technology to conduct MI. In addition to the importance of MI-trained staff and measuring program fidelity, successful MI-based interventions provided supplemental materials throughout the MI intervention.
