Popis: | Information on the biological activity of designer synthetic opioids is presented. The classifications of such agents are reviewed. Comparisons of synthetic opioids and opium alkaloids are given for analgesic and addictive effects and the ability to cause respiratory depression. The unusual biological activity of designer opioids is based on their high affinity for µ-opioid receptors, pronounced agonistic properties, and the ease of their ability to cross the blood-brain barrier. The presented biological characteristics allow designer synthetic opioids to be classified as the most dangerous drugs in illicit traffic. |
