Popis: Due to the problems associated with organic waste and its negative effect on our environment, it is imperative to eliminate waste materials without causing any harm to the environment. Summarily, organic waste (Sawdust) materials are not easy to decompose when used in landfills. The world today is being faced with great challenges in energy production, management, and sustainability because of the overuse of conventional fuel in automobiles, power generation, and various thermal applications. The imposition of emission norms by the government and other global regulatory bodies on how to reduce environmental pollutions made us go into research on how to use organic wastes like sawdust, domestics, municipal waste in gasification technology to produce a cleaner burning fuel called “producer gas” to power generators, as well as cooking gas and lantern. In this work, we studied the viability of sawdust to renewable energy using the gasification process as an alternative to the source of fuel production. This is as a result of the abundant availability of sawdust in our local area Nsukka. The up-draught gasification method was applied in the research because of its simplicity in design and less sensitivity to moisture content geometry and the size of the solid fuel. The results show that 12.56 kg of sawdust gives 82.6% carbon mono-oxide, 12.8% of hydrogen, and 4.6% of methane. The heating value is 17.0 MJ/kg and the 12.56 kg of sawdust yields power output of 13.872 MJ. In conclusion, the results show that gasification of organic waste is beneficial, it is a clean energy source, frees up landfills and dumpsites, eliminates pollution, and spread of diseases.
