An Analysis of Obstetric Factors Contributes to Postpartum Depression among Pakistani Women

Popis: | In this research authors were to observe relations among obstetric issues in addition symptoms of postpartum depression among mothers of Pakistan (N = 400; mean age = 29.5). The data were collected from postpartum rural mothers age 15-44 years selected by using simple random sampling technique. The screening of the depression of postpartum was completed by Edinburg Postpartum Depression Scale and then subjects are analyzed by using chi-square and multiple linear regression approach to examine the relations. The results revealed mothers (31.8%) have severe depressive symptoms on postpartum screening tool. Complications such as nausea/vomiting, abdominal pain and postpartum hemorreagha reported repeatedly. A number of abortions and pregnancies, unplanned pregnancy, mode of delivery, pregnancy/delivery problems, not breastfeeding and poor maternal and infant care were highly significant with postpartum depression. Anemia, vomiting, abdominal pain, body swelling and difficult labor were not originated forecasters of depression related to postpartum in multiple regression model. Study suggested a massive need for proper attention, care and medication for maternal in antenatal and postpartum period. |
