Popis: Direct liquid fuel cells (DLFCs) have potential advantages especially for portable and mobile applications over hydrogen-based fuel cells due to their higher theoretical energy density, easy handling and safe-low cost storage. The research numbers, number of fuels researched and interest from both academia and industry are increasing regularly with the advancements and commercialization of conventional FC technologies such as PEMFC and SOFC. Each fuel has its own advantages and drawbacks. In this book, the fuels and DLFC studies up-to-date were explained in detail in the related chapters. One objective was also to bring them together with a consistent classification system. This chapter gives a review of the fuels and a summary of the current state, recent trends (statistics) and the challenges for the development of DLFCs, with special emphasis on the most critical components, the catalysts and ion exchange membranes, as well as other components.
