Popis: Preoperative imaging cannot always be used to reliably determine the actual accessibility of the cochlear lumen. MED-EL offers a variety of electrode variants, as well as insertion test tools. The insertion test tools may be used during inner ear surgery to assess the condition of the cochlea. This information can be used for selecting the best suited cochlear implant electrode variant in terms of insertion depth vs. number of contacts inserted. A questionnaire was developed and sent out to numerous surgeons to get feedback on the use of the new Insertion Test Device (ITD) and to evaluate its usefulness. The feedback gathered showed that the Insertion Test Device provides valuable intraoperative information on the accessibility of the cochlear lumen and helps the surgeon in choosing the best suited cochlear implant electrode variant for the patient.
