Solid targetry for radionuclide production at the University at Buffalo

Popis: The Center for Positron Emission Tomography (P.E.T.) at SUNY Buffalo possesses a 30 MeV negative ion cyclotron capable of delivering 550 μA on target. Typically, most P.E.T. facilities have 11–18 MeV accelerators. Due to the higher energy of our cyclotron the center can accommodate a clinical and research P.E.T. program and at the same time, produce a wide variety of radionuclides where higher energy is required. The focus of this talk will be on our recent design/implementation of a beam line which extends from the main vault to the solid target vault. The design of the cyclotron door and the beam shutter allows one to work in the solid target vault while the machine is operating in the main vault. An introduction to the components of our cyclotron (ie. ion source, main coil, Rf) will begin the talk. This will be followed by the discussion concerning the beam line and the necessary components of such a system.
