Popis:	A two-step, protecting-group-free synthesis of the -natural product balasubramide, using an Yb(OTf) 3-catalyzed -intramolecular epoxide opening, is reported. Both enantiomers of the natural product are available from the antipodal forms of the starting epoxycinnamic acid.
