Introduction: The prognostic value of mortality in the current systems of classification of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a subject of controversy. The BODE index has proven to be a good tool to predict mortality in COPD. Objective: To evaluate the distribution of quartiles of the BODE index in each of the stages of COPD severity according to ALAT 2014 and GOLD 2013. Methods: Patients completed assessments to calculate the BODE index and history of exacerbations in the previous year. Patients were classified according to the proposals of gravity ALAT (mild, moderate, severe and very severe) and GOLD-2013 ABCD. Quartiles of the BODE index is analyzed Results: 100% of patients with mild COPD were classified in Q1 BODE, while 96.7% of patients were in GOLD A Q1. ALAT moderate stages were classified into Q1 (89.2%) and Q2 (10.8%), while B is classified in GOLD (Q1: 76.9% and Q2: 23.1%). Severe patients were divided into Q1: 37.5%; Q2: Q3 and 43.75%: 18.75%, while the seriously ill patients were distributed in the most advanced quartiles (Q2: 25%; Q3: 37.5%; Q4: 37.5%), C GOLD stages were distributed in Q1: 50%, Q2: 37.5% Q3 12.5% while the GOLD D were divided into 4 quartiles (Q1: 6.7%, Q2: 40%, Q3: 33.3% and Q4: 20 %) Discussion: There is a good concordance for the distribution of quartiles of the BODE index in less severe stages of COPD, however, in severe stages greater heterogeneity in the distribution of BODE quartiles was found. |
