For characterizing the geomechanical properties of rock, both the grain structure and the joint structure are important. In the past, the positions of joints were generally measured using a geologist's compass, and afterwards they were described in the “Schmidt'sche Lagekugel”. The author shows that terrestrial photogrammetry can be used advantageously for field surveys; this method is very appropriate for automation so that the data treatment and the description according to Schmidt can be done semi-automatically. |
