Popis: Scientific progress is a two-sided coin: the power which enables us to improve our lives also enables us to construct better machines of destruction; systems become so complex that we cannot understand them well enough to foresee the consequences of their use. This creates public anxiety, and while the benefits of science are taken for granted, the risks are perceived, more often than not, as potential catastrophes.
