Popis: | To reveal the potential role of amaranthine in photoprotection, the effects of photooxidative stress induced by methyl viologen (10 μmol-L−1) in the light (100 μmol-m−2-s−1) were investigated in the leaves of two ecotypes of Alternanthera sessilis (L.) DC: a red-leaf ecotype, RE; and another, green-leaf ecotype, GE). Photooxidative stress caused decreased contents of chlorophyll, total phenolics and flavonoid, decreased total antioxidative capacity (DPPH* scavenging capacity), photochemical efficiency, and increased cell death rate in the leaves of both A. sessilis ecotypes. However, the RE-ecotype showed better tolerance to photooxidation than the GE-ecotype. Correspondingly, the amaranthine level in the RE-ecotype (control) was 35 times as high as that in the GE-ecotype (control). The better tolerance to photooxidation in the RE-ecotype was mostly related to the potential role of amaranthine. Our results implied that amaranthine could be used in the detoxification pathway in anti-photooxidation ... |
