Two experiments were conducted with a medium weight, brown egg hen to investigate the effects of various intensities of illumination upon egg production, feed consumption and mortality over a 50-week production period. Intensities of 5.38, 21.53 and 53.82 lux and a treatment consisting of a three month progressive increase on each intensity with the final period utilizing 107.64 lux were tested. In each of two trials, the birds exposed to 5.38 lux had the highest egg production; but the differences in egg production between the various treatments were not statistically significant. Feed consumption per hen and laying house mortality were not significantly influenced by light intensity. |
