Popis: A low background mass spectrometer was constructed. The analyzer tube was made of stainless steel and sealed with copper gaskets, and Alpert type ultra-high vacuum valves were used. The whole apparatus can be baked out at 450°C for many hours. This apparatus has been evacuated for two months and baked out for ten times or so at the temperature of 150-400°C. The final vacuum of1×108mmHg was obtained with the use of ion getter Pump. At that pressure, the residual mass peaks are only m/e=12, 14, 16, 28, and 40. Therefore, this apparatus may be used as a low background mass spectrometer.
